Buccaneers' K.J. Britt: Ready for bigger role

    15m ago

Head coach Todd Bowles indicated Wednesday that Britt is ready to play all three downs and is becoming a leader on defense, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Britt has also been grasping the mental part of the game according to coach Bowles. The 24-year-old recorded 29 tackles (16 solo) and one pass defensed last season. It looks like he will be in line for a bigger role in the upcoming campaign when he starts at inside linebacker next to Lavonte David.

  • Jauan Jennings SF WR

Jennings and the 49ers have come to terms on a two-year deal worth up to $15.4 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The Niners gave Jennings a second-round restricted free agent tender in March. Given that it was unlikely any team would give up a pick that early for the right to pay Jennings a considerable contract, a trade was the only other option. Both parties were able to avoid that situation with this new deal, which is akin to a one-year extension. This means the pass catcher will be back to fill in the No. 3 wide receiver option behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

Ravens' Odafe Oweh: Looks good at OTAs

    37m ago

Oweh (thumb) has impressed at the Ravens' organized team activities, Ryan Mink of the team's official website reports.

Oweh underwent thumb surgery following the 2023 season, but his presence at OTAs indicates he has fully recovered. Baltimore picked up his fifth-year option in April. The 31st overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has tallied 13.0 sacks across 45 appearances during his first three seasons. He projects to start opposite Kyle Van Noy at outside linebacker in the upcoming season.

  • Josh Jacobs GB RB

Packers' Josh Jacobs: Returns to limited practice

    1h ago

Jacobs (hamstring) returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports.

Jacobs returned for individual drills but then mostly sat out the team period. He did, however, take at least one carry in full-team drills, and appears to have made it through the day without any setbacks. The hamstring injury shouldn't have much impact on Jacobs as he prepares to lead a Green Bay backfield that also has AJ Dillon and third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd on hand.

  • Tank Bigsby JAC RB

Jaguars' Tank Bigsby: Could spell Etienne more often

    2h ago

Coach Doug Pederson said last week that he'd like Bigsby to get more playing time to "take some of the pounding off of Travis [Etienne]," Demetrius Harvey of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Jaguars brass made similar comments last offseason after drafting Bigsby in the third round, but he had just three games all season with more than three carries and none with more than 17 snaps. A pair of lost fumbles on his first 24 touches didn't help, and the Jags eventually preferred D'Ernest Johnson as the running back to give Etienne occasional breathers. While Johnson is back with the team this year, Bigsby's combination of draft capital, college production (2,903 rushing yards) and size (6-0, 213) should allow him another shot to win the No. 2 RB role. Whether the Jaguars actually end up trusting him enough to take a significant chunk out of Etienne's workload is another question.

  • Taysom Hill NO QB

Saints' Taysom Hill: Taking snaps as FB/RB

    2h ago

Hill has taken snaps as a running back, fullback and tight end during OTAs rather than getting direct snaps as a dual-threat QB, Matthew Paras of The Advocate reports.

While Hill presumably will take direct snaps at some point, early signs suggest new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak prefers to use his versatile weapon as more of a hybrid TE/RB/FB/H-back. Former Saints coordinator Pete Carmichael rarely put Hill in the backfield unless he was taking the snap, instead using him as either a power-formation QB or spread-formation TE. Hill scored between five and nine touchdowns each of the past five seasons, not including passing TDs, with last year's 692 yards from scrimmage representing a new career high (besting his 652 from the year prior). His occasional outbursts, often fueled by red-zone work, have made Hill rather useful in leagues where he has TE eligibility and the scoring is non-PPR and/or best ball. His lack of receptions compared to other TEs has made him far less valuable in PPR formats, especially those that set lineups weekly, and that'll probably continue under Kubiak even if Hill's role somewhat changes for his age-34 season. Many fantasy players will be less interested in Hill himself and more interested in how his role impacts the TD projections for QB Derek Carr, RB Alvin Kamara, TE Juwan Johnson, etc.
